IT SOUNDS GREAT...

BUT HOW DO APSI MEMBERS BENEFIT?

TANGIBLES (often recognised by members)

  • Dedicated Snowpro including reports articles and reports with information on other countries and their teaching and technical approach.

  • Webpages hosting all Interski articles, reports, videos and content from the event. This area allows members to access all of the information learned at Interski in one simple location.

  • Social Media updates and interesting information from the event and what the Team has learned.

  • InterskiTV webisodes following the Team at INTERSKI along with interviews with and presentations from other countries.

  • Trainers Coordination dedicated to presenting the information learned at Interski to APSI staff. These Trainers Coordinations are usually run like the Interski event itself offering APSI staff the opportunity to select the countries they wish to learn about from the Team members who attended.

  • Spring Sessions are operated by Team members and are an opportunity for members to learn about different technical, teaching and customer service approaches of various countries directly from the Team members who attended the event.

  • In-house training run by Team members is typically operated in all resorts post Interski. This provides members employed by ASAA resorts with an opportunity to gain access to Team members and the valuable information that they have brought back from Interski.

  • Provides an opportunity for members to attend the event. At Interski 2019, 20+ supporters attended, many of whom work in the ASAA resorts around Australia. Attending this spectacle is a major highlight of a snowsports instructor's career and assists with the dissemination of content from the event.

  • Teaching, Technical and Customer Service approach learned from other countries provides significant assistance in steering the APSI National Team and Technical Committees to evolve the Australian approach. Knowledge gained from Interski has provided valuable information and research that is included in resources such as:

    • APSI manuals

    • The APSI App

    • The APSI Pocket booklet

INTANGIBLES (often not recognised by members)

  • Provides a forum for testing APSI products, processes, content and new initiatives with international industry leaders. An example of this is the APSI App which was first built and presented at Interski prior to release with APSI members. After much discussion with other countries and feedback received, the APP was refined for and launched to support APSI courses and APSI members.

  • Provides comparison and assessment of our processes with the processes of other countries. This assists the APSI in delivering the most effective products in line with international “standards”.

  • International recognition and brand awareness Australia’s attendance at Interski gives ISIA member countries the opportunity to learn about the Australian approach. This recognition supports our members' employment and working conditions in the northern hemisphere.

  • Assists the APSI and ASAA resorts to recognise foreign certification. This assists in the recognition of prior learning for foreign staff working in ASAA resorts entering the APSI pathway. This also allows the APSI to provide guidance to the ASAA on employment of staff holding foreign certifications.

  • Employment opportunities Interski is often used to promote snowsports employment opportunities around the world. These opportunities are shared with APSI members through the website benefiting all members wishing to work in the northern hemisphere creating a sustainable career in snowsports.

  • Networking opportunities between APSI trainers and trainers/resort managers from other countries. This again assists with employment opportunities but also training opportunities in the Northern Hemisphere.

  • Initiatives learned at Interski spark innovation within our own organisation. When APSI Team members see new initiatives presented by other countries, it sparks internal review of our own methods. Examples include New Zealand's review of their teaching method, or USA's use of online features to present their teaching manual.

  • The APSI learns from foreign industry trends. The Snowsports industry is always evolving and other larger overseas snowsports industries often experience change before Australia. This provokes anticipation and preparedness within our industry. Examples of this seen in presentations at Interski in some of the following areas:

    • Guest trends (the increase of guests taking lessons on fat skis in the USA or, the decline in adult group lesson participation in Switzerland)

    • Technology and online learning

    • Evolution of equipment (skis, indoor slopes, sensor technology etc.)

    • COVID processes (could be an upcoming topic for discussion)

ARGUABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT

  • Inspiration of Staff. The Interski congress is the pinnacle in an APSI staff member's career. Selection on the APSI National Team is a major motivator for improving and developing as a trainer. Inspired staff create ‘buy in’ from members and deliver products with passion. Passionate trainers instil passion in APSI members which improves our industry for guests, staff and employers.

  • Inspiration of Members. Seeing the APSI National Team represent the Australian approach provides members with a sense of pride in the Australian industry! It is also important for members to feel like we are a part of the international snowsports community. Having access to content brought back by the APSI National Team is inspiring to members and encourages further professional development and training.
