ADAPTIVE LEVEL 2

The APSI Adaptive level two qualification is aimed at certified adaptive instructors looking to build their knowledge and experience to teach students in the Alpine discipline with physical disabilities and have knowledge of different adaptive equipment available to assist the guest participation in snowsports including seated skiing.

 

COURSE

The three-day course covers the skills needed to teach beginner students with physical disabilities in the Alpine discipline. Candidates will be required to attend the course wearing Alpine equipment.

This course covers topics such as; Disability awareness, standing and seated adaptive equipment, Independent and assisted seated skiing, adaptation to the basic progression, appropriate adaptations of the Fundamental Mechanics.

COURSE PREREQUISITES

• Be a current APSI member (included in APSI course)
• Own the current APSI teaching manual (included in APSI course)
• Currently working for an APSI approved snowsports school
• Have passed the APSI Adaptive level 1 in the previous 3 years
• Hold a minimum of Alpine Level 1 certification (or have been approved in accordance with the Recognition of Prior Learning Program) and attend the course using Alpine equipment.

EXAM

The one-day exam utilises both the station assessment type for skiing and demonstration tasks and the group scenario assessment type for teaching tasks. The theory exam is delivered in the weeks preceding the on-snow exam.

Candidates will be required to attend the exam wearing Alpine equipment.

EXAM PREREQUISITES

• Be a current member
• Own the current teaching manual
• Is currently employed by an APSI approved snowsport school as a snowsports instructor
• Have completed all units of the Adaptive level two course
• 30 hours teaching/volunteering adaptive lessons
• 20 hours adaptive in-house training.
