The Beyond the Slopes Webcast Series is a brand-new inclusion with your APSI Membership, designed to bring high-quality education, inspiration and industry expertise directly to you, wherever you are in Australia or the world!
We recognise that many members, particularly those working at smaller or more remote resorts, may have fewer opportunities to attend face to face training throughout the season. These live online sessions help bridge that gap by making quality professional development available to every current APSI member, no matter where they're based.
What to Expect
Each webcast is a 60 minute live online session delivered via Microsoft Teams and hosted by experienced APSI Trainers and industry professionals. Every session is designed to provide practical knowledge that you can apply immediately out on the hill!
Webcasts will operate at 7:00pm every Monday evening commencing on 20 July with the last Webcast operating on 24 August. Webcasts will explore a diverse range of topics, including:

EVERYDAY ADAPTIVE
7:00pm Monday 20 July | Tom Hodges
This session is designed for instructors who wish to increase their confidence teaching students with common disabilities in everyday group lessons. Tom will discuss common conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD and intellectual impairments, what they may look like on snow, and practical teaching strategies that improve learning and engagement.
The session will also cover simple tips and tricks, how to access and engage with Disability Winter Australia (DWA) resources, recognising when a student may benefit from an adaptive private lesson, and conclude with an interactive Q&A where participants can discuss real-life scenarios.
Strength and Conditioning Fundamentals for Alpine Skiing: How to Train as a Female Skier (Open to everyone and applies to all genders!)

Skiing is a strength sport, the forces you experience during a purely carved turn can hit 2.5G, way more than most of us could ever squat. So why does "training" for skiing usually stop at some core work and a bit of yoga? Come along for an evening on training smarter as a female alpine skier: physiological differences between men and women, menstrual cycle facts, injury prevention, equipment needs and how to build the athletic foundations of high-performance skiing.
The 1%: Micro-Skills for Instructors
7:00pm Monday 3 August | Ant Hill
A look at the small, often unspoken habits that separate good instructors from great ones. Using verbal and video examples, we'll cover self-development members can build into their lessons and training, as simple as: equipment prep and natural warm-up tactics, to spotting guests outside your lesson for MA to narrow the focus. Level topics include: Level 1, building stance into a basic traverse; Level 2, developing the basic christie; Level 3, upper/lower body separation and exploratory tactics; Level 4, how early patterning eases advanced precision. Each level includes live Q&A so members can share their own 1% habits.

PASS YOUR EXAM WITH CONFIDENCE: THE PSYCHOLOGY OF PERFORMING UNDER PRESSURE

You've trained hard and you know your skiing or boarding. So why does exam day feel so different? Join Olympic Sport psychologist and APSI Level 2 instructor Gavin Freeman for a webinar built specifically for ski and snowboard instructors preparing for their next accreditation.
Drawing on his work with elite athletes, Gavin explores why the pressure of assessment feels so different from the freedom of training — and how stress can get in the way of showing what you're truly capable of. You'll walk away with practical mental strategies to bring your best skiing to the moment that matters.
ALPINE MOVEMENT ANALYSIS (LEVELS 2 & 3)

This webcast is designed to help APSI members prepare for upcoming Level 2 and Level 3 end-of-season exams by developing a better understanding of how to use movement analysis process. Ange will work through the full movement analysis sheet. The session will then focus on what candidates can expect during the exam.
This webcast is suitable for Alpine members preparing for certification exams or looking to strengthen their MA skills.
