Trained Status programming

1. Development Level Course and On-line ePrep Module

The on-line Development Level ePrep module is mandatory and is part of the preparation required for attending the 5 day on snow course. It will guide candidates through key concepts and terminology covered during the course. Successful completion of the ePrep module requires a 75% result on multiple choice tests in the application. If this is not completed before the course, coaches will be required to complete it, or a paper version, as homework during the evening after day 1 on course. The module will take about 4 hours to complete and can be done in as many sittings as you like. The application "remembers" where you left off.

The 5 day Development Level course includes topics such as slalom and giant slalom basics for K1 and K2 athletes. You will learn strategies utilizing drills and exercises that bring desired skill acquisition in free skiing and gates. You will learn setting principles in slalom and giant slalom courses, modified for this age group. Teaching and learning principles and safety considerations are also covered. Practice coaching sessions are part of the course for each candidate.
The evaluation portion of the course assesses the candidate's ability to demonstrate free skiing and gate skiing skills as well as drill setting. Candidates must pass the skiing and drill setting evaluation to successfully complete the course. Re-evaluations for skiing and drill setting are available.

CSCF Development Level - Trained status

6. Coaching Evaluation (during training)  and Coach Portfolio - Part A Assessment

The coaching evaluation is conducted by a trained CSCF evaluator and takes place at the coach's home club during a regular training session with the coach's athletes. There are 3 elements in this evaluation:
- coach portfolio Part A assessment
- on hill coaching observation with athletes (3-4 hours)
- debrief session
this session will take 4-6 hours to complete. Contact the APSI office for information.

The assessment of the Coach Portfolio - Part A will be done by the same evaluator prior to the on-hill coaching evaluation. The coach must bring the Portfolio Part A documentation with them to the evaluation session.
The focus of the Coach Portfolio Part A is:
- reporting athlete progress
- a mentor course setting assessment
- a mentor coaching assessment of the coach.
