Getting a job
Most Snowsports schools in Australia hire new instructors out of the early season training (or hiring) clinics they hold at the start of the season. In addition to this Snowsport Schools may employ you if you already have a snowsport instruction certification from Australia or another country. For example, if you already have the APSI entry level qualifications run here in Australia or in Japan or if you spent the summer in a location like Canada and attained a certification with the CSIA.
Keep in mind that hiring staff is up to the individual resorts and each will have their own policies and procedures. It is not the APSI?s domain to be involved with their employment practices. The APSI is only involved in further training and accreditation of instructors, Snowsport Schools provide training to their employees to enable them to reach the required standards to sit APSI exams.

Don't forget to ask a few questions though:
How much is the hiring clinic?
When do you need to register by?
Do they assist with accommodation?
What time and where do you meet on the first day?
What standard do I need to be at?
Your ability level is only a small part of the ingredients that a potential employer looks at. They are also interested in whether you have the ingredients that make up a good instructor - patience, a friendly personality, an encouraging nature and a sense of humour! If you have the qualities of a good instructor then the Snowsports School may be willing to take you on and improve your ability to slide on snow through their training. It is easier to teach someone how to improve their snowsports skills than it is teaching them how to improve their personality...
There are now courses in Australia similar to those run overseas designed to help individuals improve their skills and even help them get a job.
