Snowboard

Level 2 course

Aim:
To introduce experienced instructors to teaching strategies for refined turns through to introduction to freestyle, short turns, moguls and carved turns. To refine teaching and riding skills and become more adaptable in more challenging terrain and snow conditions.

Prerequisites:

  1. Be a current APSI member
  2. Own the current APSI teaching manual
  3. Currently working for an Australian Snowsports School
  4. Passed all units of the APSI level 1 or equivalent
  5. It is also recommended that any one choosing to sit just the ACC component attend all 8 days of training.

Duration:
The Level 2 course will involve 5 days of approximately six hours per day on snow plus one and ½ hours per day indoors.

Assessment guidelines:
Level 2/ACC exams are held in September in both NSW and Victoria; it is a two day exam.

Competencies of 5/10 will need to be met in each of the following key competency areas;

  • Teaching (simulated situation)
  • Student riding skills analysis (video)
  • Riding ability 3 out of 4, chosen from (Short, change of rhythm, Free or bumps)
  • Demonstrating ability 3 out of 4, chosen from (Carved turns, 180 air, toe to toe or basic linked fakie turns)
  • Theory exam sat during August at home resort.
