Adaptive teaching is one of the most rewarding forms of snow
sport teaching that you can choose.
Snow sports offers people with both physical and mental
disabilities the opportunity to experience fun, challenge and skill
improvement in a physical environment that is different and
enjoyable. It is often just being in the snow that they
remember.
Most of the time it is what you learn from their snow experience
that will stick with you forever. Combine this with learning to
move and feel the cold, the sun and the wind - and you have the
opportunity to share a very special time with very special
people.
Adaptive can encompass everything from teaching people with a
mental disability to cope with learning to ski through to those
with a physical challenge - such as an amputee.
As an adaptive teacher you will learn skills that will equip you
to use equipment designed to allow those with physical challenges
to enjoy snow sports. This can mean training in sit skis,
outriggers or other hardware designed to assist.
Why do we call it adaptive? Because we believe snow sports is
for everyone - it is up to us to adapt how and what we teach to
make it enjoyable and accessible for everyone.
